WEEKLY REPORT: 09.10 - 09.14

Updated: Sep 15, 2018

Monday 09.10

  • In class today we went over the expectations for our list of interview questions. We were assigned to create five questions that could be asked to any professional regardless of their profession - specifically for networking. And fifteen questions that were industry specific.

  • Edited my contact list with additional contacts and professionals I found.

Tuesday 09.11

  • Created a new website using wix.com. I made the website more detailed and unique as compared to the one I made last year.

  • I also spent time searching for an article I could use for my research assessment due this week.

Wednesday 09.12

  • By the end of the day today our ISM I mentees were asked to leave us a voicemail to practice. All three of my mentees called in time and I gave them all detailed feedback on how to get better. This gave me the opportunity to review what the voicemail structure was like and prepare myself for the voicemails I will have to leave.

Thursday 09.13

  • I primarily worked on my research assessment which focused on branches of consulting and some qualities I can begin to focus on. The article I read also helped me think of additional industry-specific questions.

  • Finished website with updated information and documents

  • Set up a LinkedIn account with experiences and education

Friday 09.14

  • Discussed/ Reviewed what a professional resume looks like. ISM II students looked over ISM I student's resumes to give feedback.

  • Mr. Pirtle gave us an overview of what is going to be going on in the next weeks: phone calls, interview, Business Symposium, etc.

  • At home, I edited my resume to fit with the things we spoke about in class and also updated it with new accomplishments and experiences.

Reflection:

  • The things we went over in class today gave me the opportunity to review the important things I need to keep in mind when starting my search for a mentor. Things such as leaving a voicemail, proper interview questions, and setting up a professional digital portfolio. I am somewhat scared for this coming week as we are required to have contacted 20 professionals and have 2 interviews booked. However, I will definitely not procrastinate on this assignment. A problem I do run into is that most consulting firms are located in downtown which is quite hard to commute to as I do not drive and both my parents work. However, I will make a decision after I schedule some interviews.

Action/Goals:

  • Contact 20 professionals

  • Schedule 2 interviews

  • Gather more contacts that are closer to Frisco
