WEEKLY REPORT: 09.03 - 09.07

Updated: Sep 15, 2018

Monday 09.03

  • As school was out today I spent some time to further research on my new topic: consulting. My uncle is an IT consultant for Ernst and Young, therefore I thought it would be a good idea to speak with him and talk to him about my decision to pursue this topic. He explained to me some things he really liked about the field and some challenges I would face. I learned a lot from him and also thought of some questions I could ask during my interviews.

Tuesday 09.04

  • In class, we reviewed how to set a professional voicemail and why it is important to have one. One of my classmates and I were assigned to create a bad example of a voicemail for the class to hear. We then talked about what things we should avoid saying. We also reviewed the script for the phone call where we contact professionals for an interview. I recorded my voicemail again making sure I followed everything we talked about in class.

Wednesday 09.05

  • I was not able to work on ISM extensively today because I had two tests the next day. However, I did read some articles about consulting for my first research assessment.

Thursday 09.06

  • In class today, we went over the expectations for the research assessment. My research assessment from last year was posted as an example which was really awesome! Mr. Pirtle also went over the contact list and how to approach it.

  • I completed my contact list using LinkedIn and asking some of my friends and family for any possible contacts that they have of professionals in the business field.

  • I found an article that I felt was a good topic to start my first research assessment. I turned it in following the rubric and the points Mr. Pirtle went over with us in class.

Friday 09.07

  • I contacted my mentor from last year and asked her if there was any day we could meet in the next weeks just to speak. This way I continue my mentor-mentee relationship with her because she truly taught me so much!

Reflection:

  • This week gave me a chance to review some of the professional changes I had made last year like my voicemail and format for my assignments. As an ISM II student, it is really beneficial that I have most of the things Mr. Pirtle says done this way I have the opportunity to dive deeper into learning about my topic. Also, we were assigned ISM I mentees which really allows me to get to know everyone in the ISM program. So far a great start! I am super excited to make calls and start the preparation for the Business Symposium.

Action/Goals:

  • Contact ISM I mentees to make sure they have a professional voicemail

  • Update LinkedIn/ Digital Portfolio

  • Gather more contacts that are closer to Frisco

  • Meet previous mentor in the next coming weeks
