Monday 10.01
Business Symposium is two days away, therefore, I worked on finalizing my resume and practicing the interview and networking questions.
Tuesday 10.02
Since today was the day before Business Symposium, in class, we focused on interviews. As an ISM II student I was an interviewer for the entire time. This gave me the opportunity to review possible questions I could be asked and also questions I could ask if I was asked to be an interviewer.
I printed out my resume on resume paper in preparation for Business Symposium. I also made sure my portfolio had two pens and was neat and clean.
Wednesday 10.03: Business Symposium
Today was a big day: Business Symposium. We had the opportunity to network with professionals before the event began. I spoke with two professionals who were both amazing to speak to. I learned so much just from a two to three minute conversation. I started off in the lecture hall where I simply answered questions from ISM I students. I learned a lot of new things from students across the district. I had the opportunity to even meet some people for Heritage that I had not met personally. After that, I had one interview. I had a very sweet lady who was a physician. She gave a lot of advice about college which was very helpful. While interviewing, I could see the improvement I had from last year. I was not nervous and I was confidently answering all the questions. From there we went to go listen to a speaker who also gave us advice for the future. Finally, we ended in a networking session with other ISM students around the district. It was incredibly interesting to see what other people had already experienced within their topics. Overall, I had a great time and it was an amazing experience.
Thursday 10.04:
In class, we spoke about how the Business Symposium and completed a survey on it. Additionally, we reviewed what the new marking period would look like and expectations on the upcoming presentations.
Friday 10.05:
I had a thank you card I needed to write, therefore, I wrote that during my day off. I have college applications due in the coming month, so I spent most of my weekend focused on that.
Reflection:
The Business Symposium this year was a great time for me to see the drastic change I have been through from last year. I was more confident and felt a lot better about communicating with the professionals that came. However, I wish the ISM II students had the opportunity to do two interviews just so we can continue practicing. Now that business symposium is done, I really need to spend quality time on ISM, my topic, and scheduling interviews. My next milestone is Winter Showcase and I want to be prepared and have some experience to talk about.
Action/Goals:
Schedule 2 interviews
Gather more contacts that are closer to Frisco
Look into the consulting confidentiality issue
Prepare for next presentation
